" El rastre d´un pioner"
Synopsis
Genre: Documentary. An investigation shows the figure of the Catalan astronomer J. Comas in Solą, a pioneer of the early twentieth century, long forgotten after the war.
Comments by the composer
It was the first time that I was required to start from pre-existing
music. The director asked me if I could use a score composed by the same
J. Comas in Solį (the protagonist of the documentary). In this way, the
music would be more integrated in the story and give more information
about the character and the times in which he lived. It was a waltz, and
only had a melody for voice, and according to the letter, it seemed to
have been written for his wife. Then, based on that melody, the musical
structure was as follows: I created two tunes. The first one was based
on harmonic piano and female voice (for the flashbacks of the documentary);
a waltz that had to be sung by a woman's voice giving a more folkloric
pitch, and then we made it have an older, scratchy sound, like from the
20“s. The second one, the tune for the investigator, needed to have a
beautiful and beloved
